T4 can have its strange bugs at times and it is often difficult to know how to work around these bugs for both the experienced and inexperienced. Before using T4 , make sure that you are using Google Chrome (preferred) or Firefox. Other browsers have been known to cause problems with using T4 .

  1. Carefully highlight the text you want to change sizes
  2. On the styles dropdown, click on the size it currently has
  3. Then highlight the text again if it is no longer highlighted
  4. On the styles dropdown, select the size you want it to be
  5. It is essential to remove the text’s prior formatting or else multiple stylings get added to the text and the HTML code gets too messy for TERMINALFOUR to read.
  1. If the issue persists, often times, tags can hang on from previous formatting, so cut the text (CTRL+X) you are having trouble with
  2. Paste (CTRL+V) it into Notepad or TextEdit.
  3. Re-copy (CTRL+C) the text you just pasted into Notepad or TextEdit
  4. Paste (CTRL+V) it into TERMINALFOUR
  5. Apply the formatting as desired.
  6. This process of cutting and pasting in and out of Notepad or TextEdit removes the previous formatting that hangs on in the HTML.

We understand this can be a frustrating process, especially without much experience with TERMINALFOUR or HTML. 

Keep in mind that even under normal conditions, updating pages can take up to 15 minutes, but typically takes 3-5 minutes. If, however, your pages aren’t updated within 15 minutes of Approving Changes, contact Web Support and we can publish your site’s channel to ensure that the most recent versions are live.

Images can be placed onto a page in TERMINALFOUR in two ways: Through a purpose-built content type, or directly placed inline with a page's content. Since responsive sites change size, it can be difficult to place images inline and have them appear correctly on all devices--the screen size differs, but the image size does not, so often images hang off the page or push other content around in unexpected ways.

To simplify inserting images directly into content, authors may use the "fit" and "stretch" classes by double-clicking the image in their editor and typing "fit" or "stretch" into the "class" field, then pressing "Update." Both of these classes ensure that the image will not overflow the screen regardless of the viewing device.

"fit" causes an image to display at its normal size when there is enough room for it, but contract when screen conditions become tight.

"stretch" causes an image to expand to the full width of the content area under any conditions, even if that width is wider than the image.

The internet is a fast-paced environment in which information is created, moved, archived, and deleted rapidly. As such, a site you link to this year may no longer exist next year, or the organization that maintains the information may have moved it. For this reason, it is essential that you regularly check the links you would like to maintain. Links will not automatically update on their own. Finding broken links
Because broken links are a common occurrence on the internet, a huge range of very easy-to-use tools are available to find them. If you'd like to find broken links across your entire site, services like Broken Link Checker can generate a report in seconds. Alternately, if you'd like to be able to click a button and see all links highlighted in red or green by whether or not they're working, you can get a link checker extension like Check My Links (Chrome) or Pinger (Firefox). Keep in mind that broken link checkers may occasionally return some unexpected information, such as saying Blackboard or a mail service is a broken link. This is usually because these pages require logins to work or have special configurations that the link checker does not understand. You are only responsible for the links within the content areas you can edit.

Fixing a broken link

  1. Open the page with the broken link in TERMINALFOUR
  2. Click "Modify" on the piece of content with the broken link
  3. Place your cursor in the link you'd like to update
  4. Press the link icon (small chain in upper right of editor)
  5. Clear the old link
  6. Paste in the new link
  7. Update and approve the content


  • Carefully select and implement links, and verify them regularly after publication.
  • Avoid linking to pages deep in a website (deep linking) as these links are likely to break over time due to restructures.
  • The only links that you can be sure will not break are those pointing to pages you maintain.
  • Even if a link isn't broken, you should still check the page it points to carefully. The content may have changed and may no longer be relevant.
  • When an important link breaks, contact the department that owns it. They will be able to point you to the resource's new location.

Sometimes content types get disabled for development and testing and don't all get enabled properly. 

  1. Navigate to http://people.mst.edu
  2. On the left side, click “Faculty Profile Editor”
  3. Log in using University credentials
  4. Edit the profile as desired

The Media Library only publishes images/documents when images/documents are placed on a page using Content Types. If you're trying to place the image/document within the Plain HTML content type, you will need to place the image/document within a content type on a test page; this will publish the image/document to the server.

  1. Log into TERMINALFOUR.
  2. Click the TERMINALFOUR logo in the upper left-hand corner of the page to access your full site structure.
  3. Open up your site's hierarchical structure until you've found the page (or "section") for which you'd like to change the breadcrumb.

  4. Click this section and ensure that you are on the "General" tab

  5. Change the "Name" field to what you would like the breadcrumb to say. Please use no more than three words. Also of note is the "Output URI" field, which allows you to define what this section shows up as in the URL (e.g. "breadcrumb" for "http://communications.mst.edu/web/support/breadcrumb/"). Please use only lowercase letters a-z and numbers 1-9 in the "Output URI" field--no numbers or special characters.
